Karma, speaking in terms of forums in general is usually just an OOC thing where good posting is rewarded by giving some points and bad attitude or disliked postage gets you minus points. I don't think it has much to do with the IC world since even non-RP forums have that feature, sometimes simply because the admin forgets to turn it off. I myself don't see a point for seeing it implemented into the IC scene, but that's just me.

Hm. I would probably get rid of it all together or think of some way to implement it into the RP.

I guess it's mostly OOC.
Someone does a good post, someone makes someone a graphic or is nice or helps a newbie or whatever and they got Karma. Kinda redundant though. ^^
